On 16 July 2025, Parliament passed a comprehensive overhaul of Portugal’s immigration framework on an accelerated 16-working-day track. The law establishes a specialised immigration and borders unit (UNEF), narrows work-visa eligibility to highly qualified profiles, tightens family-reunification criteria, and shortens visa validity to six months, changes that also affect CPLP nationals, including Brazilians. The bill now awaits the President’s decision within 20 days, opening the way for signature, veto, or referral to the Constitutional Court.
